Chief Justice engages MPs on Judiciary Priorities
Members of the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee at the High Court in Kampala
At least 15 members from the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee took part in an interface with the Judiciary management on Thursday (April 15,2021).
The Chief Justice, Hon. Justice Alfonse Owiny - Dollo, said after the meeting that he discussed with the legislators Judiciary's key priorities in line with the administration of justice and the desire to take justice closer to the people.
He also said he used the opportunity to rally the MPs to support the Judiciary's enhanced budget to operationalize the Administration of the Judiciary Act 2020 fully.
The Parliamentary Committee Chairperson, Hon. Jacob Oboth Oboth, said his Committee is committed to supporting Judiciary's bid for an enhanced budget, among other things.
At the end of the engagement, the Legislators made a tour of the Appellate buildings under construction at the Judiciary headquarters in Kampala.
The Deputy Chief Justice, Hon. Justice Richard Buteera, Principal Judge, Hon. Justice Dr Flavian Zeija, Permanent Secretary, Mr. Pius Bigirimana, and the Chief Registrar, HW Sarah Langa Siu, took part in the day-long engagement, together with selected members of the Judiciary Senior Management.
